Hook on metal cladding panels

tmd was instructed to investigate the failure of the fixing to a hook on metal cladding panel to a landmark building in the City of London.

During a routine inspection of the façade, the fixed access cradle had dislodged a panel, resulting in the panel falling seven storeys into the street below.

tmd undertook a review of the original façade engineering drawings and the cladding subcontractor's details to prepare a report on the likely cause of failure.

A comprehensive survey of all cladding panels was then undertaken to confirm whether or not the panels had been installed as designed and, having regard to the location and condition, whether the fixing was appropriate. Where panels were considered to be at risk tmd was retained to specify and monitor remedial works to ensure that the risk was controlled.
